Purestream Technology Induced Gas Flotation Separator (IGF)

Removal of Total Suspended Solids (TSS) :: The Purestream Technology Induced Gas Flotation Separator (IGF) provides an effective and cost efficient solution to clarifying high total suspended solids water streams and valuable hydrocarbon reclamation in produced water.

The vertical IGF process is a proven technology that hasPurestream Technology Induced Gas Flotation Separator (IGF) been widely used in onshore and offshore gas and oil exploration since the 1970’s. It is a valuable component that provides real solutions in waste water management as both a stand-alone application or an integral component in waste water management plants. Purestream has improved upon this technology and developed an enclosed IGF skid capable of processing 2500 bbl/day of input stream. This vertical IGF technology is scalable and has been successfully employed in applications up to 115,000 bbl/day input stream. The core functionality of the IGF is effective removal of 97% of TSS in input streams, including oil and condensate. The output stream regularly tests at TSS levels less than 10 ppm, allowing this technology to be used in offshore/overboard discharge (platforms, spill cleanup) applications as well as onshore secondary recovery supply.

  • One (1) vertical single cell IGF designed to process 0 – 75 gpm of water
  • Inlet, outlet, skim, and recycle pumps with automatic isolation valves
  • H2S and CO2 monitoring system
  • Effluent TSS and flotable hydrocarbon levels below 10 ppm
  • Reduces waste water TSS Levels prior to volume reduction (Evaporation)
  • Recycles low TDS water for beneficial reuse

Waste water input stream containing hydrocarbons and other suspended solids is routed through the Induced Gas Flotation Separator (IGF) where suspended solids and hydrocarbons are mechanically skimmed from water and isolated. The IGF process involves introducing gas into the waste water stream via an educator, coalescing the oil/solids, releasing the water in a separation vessel, skimming the “floated” oil and solids from the surface of the vessel and discharging clarified effluent from the bottom of the vessel. The IGF combines all of these actions in a unique vertical design by using finely dispersed gas to reduce the apparent density of the oil and solids, increase their droplet size and greatly increase buoyancy through coalescence. The vertical annular riser eliminates the potential for short circuit flow found in some horizontal designs and combines “column flotation” technology with its downflow design, which promotes flotation of oil at the surface. The resultant water stream is polished by IGF effectively removing 97% of TSS. Valuable hydrocarbons are recovered and isolated to onsite storage tanks and made available for future sales.
